The Economics of Sports: Jonesboro

Registration fee: $25.00 (Fee is refundable to teachers from Economics Arkansas partner school systems upon successful completion of the workshop or if cancellation is received two weeks prior to the day of the workshop.)

According to a recent Sports Illustrated article, 60 percent of former NBA players are financially broke within five years of retirement. In addition, 78% of former NFL players have gone bankrupt or are under financial stress within 2 years of retiring.

This workshop will focus on the relationship between economics and the world of sports, plus it will provide participants with engaging lessons for teaching economics concepts through the lens of sports.

Target Audience: 6-12 Teachers


Participants attending will receive:

  • Six hours of ADE approved professional development
  • ESPN's Broke DVD
  • Curriculum developed by the Georgia Council on Economic Education and the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
  • Lunch and snacks
  • $50 stipend
