Examples of Complete Projects
Please note: Working for Wheels…Rolling with Pride was an award-winning entry prior to the requirement of a “Chronology & Instructional Process” section. Toying Around with Economics is an example of an award-winning project that includes the “Chronology” section.
A. Cover Page
State the title of your entry and your teaching position(s). Provide the grade level(s)/course(s) involved including total number of students and how long the project lasted. Briefly describe your class, school, and school district/system.
B. Writing Prompts
Answer each prompt to share as much information as possible about your project. There is no page limit on each prompt. However, up to one page per prompt is recommended. You may have a total of six pages answering the prompts.
1. Provide a concise overview of the project.
2. Describe what you wanted to accomplish (why this project is important to your particular group of students).
3. Explain how economics was integrated with other curriculum areas: reading, mathematics, science, etc.
4. Describe your preparation (include the sources of information you consulted and what you developed for the students using these sources).
5. Explain what made this project particularly worthwhile and/or exciting for students.
6. Describe what your students learned and how you measured that learning. Include a copy and results of the pre/post test in supplemental materials if administered. If other assessment methods were used, please include a copy with results in supplemental materials.
C. Chronology and Instructional Process
Provide a chronological list of all lessons and activities related to the project. Identify economic concepts presented. Include approximate time required and a brief explanation of each session.
D. Economic Standards and Student Learning Objectives
Identify the National Content Standards in Economics incorporated in your project. These standards may be accessed on the National Council for Economic Education website, www.ncee.net. Write the national benchmarks addressed in the project. State the student learning objectives you developed for your unit in relationship to the benchmarks.
E. Sample Lesson Plan
Choose one of your most effective, innovative lesson plans designed for direct instruction of economic concepts. Lesson plan refers to work accomplished during 1-3 class sessions. Lesson is to be written in the following format: Lesson Description, Grade Level, National Economic Content Standards and Benchmarks, State Social Studies Frameworks in Economics, Student Learning Objectives, Time Required, Materials, Procedure, Closure and Assessment.
Lesson examples provided may not include state social studies frameworks.

F. Supplemental Materials
1. A copy of the pre/post test or other assessment techniques and the assessment results (required).
2. A bibliographical listing of all resources and reference materials used (required).
3. You may include up to 10 additional pages of supplemental materials: student work, photos, graphs or other printed materials.
