And Then Boom!: Hunger, Poverty, and Homelessness in Children's Literature

This interactive virtual workshop explores how children’s literature portrays hunger, poverty, and homelessness. Participants will discover new award-winning picture books and engaging chapter books that open conversations about economic realities. The session highlights key economic concepts appropriate for elementary and middle grades, while offering practical classroom activities that build empathy and critical thinking. A curated bibliography will support further reading and lesson planning. Discussion and participant sharing are encouraged throughout this collaborative professional learning experience.
